#AtoZchallenge: G is for Ghost

I was just talking with a friend the other day about ghosts and how ghosts that simply have unfinished business don't frighten me, but I find the idea of a malevolent spirit to be unsettling.
A spooky ghost--love the lantern though.

For today's writing prompt, you can write about either--or both. Here it is:

WRITE A 1,500-WORD GHOST STORY.

The trick to writing about ghosts is to build the tension and maintain it. Think about your favorite ghost stories or spooky movies. As soon as you find out what's really going on, or what the spirit really wants (if it's a benevolent one), the tension disappears. Try to hold that moment off as long as you can.
Happy writing!
